Life is an incredible journey no matter who you are or where you come from. Each person’s life is unique, amazing & epic but unfortunately not timeless. The more we experience in this world the wiser we get, the more confident we get and move into a place in life where the world is truly your oyster. Everything is in control, life is good, and you get the most out of it every day.
But then one day, around the middle of their lifetime, some people take a look at their lives and they panic. They realize they are half way through their lives and it just isn’t what they hoped it would be.
They still realize there is so much more they want to do. They freak out because they’ve reached their life’s peak and feel as if everything is starting to go downhill from here, instead of up.
They make drastic changes and decisions in attempts to make up for lost time, or regain their youth and identity. Some people call this a “midlife crisis.” While this may be a difficult time for some people, this is not the time to let your life cave in.
Here’s how to look the signs and symptoms of a midlife crisis in the face and embrace them and enjoy your life to it’s fullest no matter how far into it you are!
1. Health Issues
So this is a big one, but one you can make the most of. While health issues can appear at any time in your life, the aches and pains and major issues of your life’s journey and your genetics start to come out of the woodwork.
Don’t stress. Use this as a time to make some positive changes and become more aware of your health and how to keep it in it’s top form. If you don’t “use it, you lose it” so use this as a time to discover a new activity or sport, to quit that bad health habit, or discover new food and diets that help to improve your health.
If you make an effort to get active and in shape and healthy now, it will only benefit you further down the road.

2. Comparing Our Lives To Our Friends
So you never got married. You didn’t land the big job. You are tired of watching videos or looking at photos of your friend’s new houses and children plastered all over your Facebook. You can’t compare.
Each of you traveled a different path to get where you are and are on a different journey with different goals. If you must compare, compare the things that matter.
For example, you may have never had children, but this has given you the opportunity to travel the world and enjoy your life and dedicate it to the activities you most enjoy.
While your friends are stuck at home watching Disney on a Saturday night, and in bed by 8:00 pm, you are changing the world with your ground breaking career and networking at a huge event.
Maybe you’re surfing the coast of Hawaii or learning to play the piano or working on your first movie. Just because your life didn’t follow normal social standards of college, job, marriage, baby, doesn’t mean it’s any less amazing and in some cases it may be more.
3. Obsession With Losing Weight Or Getting Fit
Yea, I know… your metabolism isn’t what it used to be. You’ve let yourself go. You no longer fit into your college size 3. Your promise to yourself that you’ll start working out tomorrow but that was 5 years ago.
So what? Use this as motivation to start now. Its never too late to be what you might have been, and its never to late to get active and do something great for your health. I know people that look 100 times better in their 40’s and 50’s than they ever did in their 20’s or 30’s.
4. Upset With Your Job
No matter what age, we all go through this. Hopefully by “midlife” you’ll be in a more financially secure position that if you do wish to make a change you have the stability to do so.
If not, find a way to do it anyway. Find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life. Its never too late for a career change or to follow your dreams.
5. Depression
Everybody deals with it. You may just have more, due to your life experience, to be stressed or upset about. But this is a good thing.
You’ve lived more, lost more, and loved more, so let it help you open your eyes to appreciate more and be more. Your heightened sense of self-awareness is an edge, use it to your advantage to get out of situations that make you unhappy and to find what really does.
6. Obsessing Over Your Life’s Purpose
First of all, the beauty of being you is that you are allowed to assign your life any purpose you want. You’re also allowed to change it as often as you want, or even not assign it a purpose at all. So there’s nothing to worry about. If you haven’t reached your “purpose” then get a move on. If you have, then enjoy the ride!
7. Buying Lavish And Expensive Stuff
In the midst of your midlife identity crisis, you may feel inclined to show off your self worth by attaching a material possession to it. This may be the time you splurge and buy that car you’ve always wanted, that new toy or electronic, reinvent your wardrobe, or even get a complete makeover.
This is not a bad thing! You’ve worked hard and you deserve it. Life has gotten in your way and there is nothing wrong with finally deciding to get the things you’ve always wanted in life, as long as it truly makes you happy. Go ahead and buy that red Corvette.
8. Sudden Urges To Revisit Your Younger Year Behaviors
There is nothing wrong with revisiting your youth. If you feel like going out one night and dancing the night away and having a few too many drinks like a college student, by all means, enjoy yourself. Look up your old friends on Facebook and see what they’re up to.
Reignite your interest in childhood sports and activities. Be irresponsible. Take a day off of work. Its your life to enjoy the way you want to enjoy it so do it!

9. Aging
It’s coming for everyone and there’s not much you can do except spend millions of dollars in plastic surgery, cosmetic procedures, and beauty products. But most of all, you should embrace your age because it’s beautiful.
So many celebrities look so much more amazing in their 40’s, 50’s and 60’s than they ever did in their 20’s or 30’s. Like a fine wine, you only get better with age. Take care of your body and it will take you timelessly through the years. If you feel like a nip or tuck here and there to reverse the sands of time, there is NOTHING wrong with it.
We have the technology to slow down the aging process and there is nothing wrong with taking advantage of it. A midlife crisis is NOT a time to panic, its a time to embrace and a time to reinvent yourself. If you haven’t done what you’ve always wanted to, then do it now before it’s too late.
If you feel like turning the hands of time back a decade or so, it’s your life, do it! The bottom line is do what makes you happy and what will make you content for the rest of your days. Its your life, and there is no wrong decision as long as you are happy.
